Chlor (Cl) ist ein chemisches Element und gehört zur Gruppe der Halogene im Periodensystem. Chlor ist ein starkes Oxidationsmittel und wird häufig als Desinfektionsmittel in der Wasserbehandlung verwendet, um Bakterien, Viren und andere Mikroorganismen abzutöten.
In der Wasserbehandlung und -analyse wird Chlor oft mittels der DPD-Methode (diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) gemessen. Diese Methode ist einfach und zuverlässig und wird zur Bestimmung der Gesamtchlor-Konzentration (freies Chlor und gebundenes Chlor) in Wasserproben verwendet.
Die DPD-Methode funktioniert durch die Zugabe von DPD-Reagenzien zu einer Wasserprobe, die eine Farbreaktion hervorrufen, die proportional zur Menge an Chlor ist. Die Intensität der Farbe wird dann mit einem Photometer oder einer Farbskala gemessen und in mg/l (Milligramm pro Liter) ausgedrückt.
Die Chlor-Konzentration im Wasser kann durch verschiedene Faktoren beeinflusst werden, wie bspw. die Art der Desinfektionsmittel, die Dosierung und die Reaktionszeit. In hohen Konzentrationen kann Chlor negative Auswirkungen auf die Gesundheit von Menschen haben und es können Grenzwerte für die Chlor-Konzentration im Trinkwasser festgelegt werden.
Es wird empfohlen, die Chlor-Konzentration in regelmäßigen Abständen zu überwachen, um sicherzustellen, dass das Wasser den geltenden Standards und Richtlinien entspricht und keine unerwünschten Auswirkungen auf die Umwelt oder die Gesundheit von Menschen hat.
