Hydrazin (N2H4) ist eine anorganische Verbindung und besteht aus zwei Stickstoffatomen und vier Wasserstoffatomen. Hydrazin ist ein farbloses, ätzendes und hochreaktives Gas oder eine farblose Flüssigkeit, die in vielen technischen Anwendungen eingesetzt wird. Es ist ein starkes Reduktionsmittel, das bedeutet, dass es in der Lage ist, andere Substanzen zu oxidieren, während es selbst reduziert wird.
In der Wasserbehandlung wird Hydrazin als Sauerstoffanhänger eingesetzt, um Sauerstoff im Wasser zu entfernen und Korrosion von metallischen Rohrleitungen und Ausrüstungen zu verhindern. Hydrazin wird auch zur Reinigung von Kesseln in Kraftwerken und anderen Industrieanlagen verwendet.
Hydrazin ist jedoch auch ein giftiges und gefährliches Gas und muss daher sorgfältig und unter angemessenen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen gehandhabt werden. Bei unsachgemäßer Handhabung oder Lagerung kann Hydrazin eine potenzielle Bedrohung für die Umwelt und die Gesundheit von Menschen darstellen.
