Design variants of the reference system (reference electrode system)
Only silver-ion-free reference electrolytes are used in JUMO tecLine electrodes. A cartridge discharge system contains the silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl). Various diaphragm designs are used.
Diaphragm type Description Possible electrolytes Recommended minimum conductivity of the measuring medium Typical applications / limitations
1× Ceramic diaphragm High-quality zirconium dioxide diaphragma Polymerised solid electrolyte Without salt reservoir: 100 µS/cm
With salt reservoir: 50 µS/cm
General water and wastewater engineering,
industrial processes, etc.
liquid KCl (potassium chloride) 5 µS/cm
3× Ceramic diaphragm As above, with increased KCl outflow due to a higher number of outlets Polymerised solid electrolyte Without salt reservoir: 50 µS/cm
With salt reservoir: < 50 µS/cm
In contaminated or low-ion media;
low-temperature applications
liquid KCl (potassium chloride) 0,1 µS/cm
Glass fibre diaphragm Glass fibre bundle instead of a ceramic diaphragm for electrodes with a plastic shaft Polymerised solid electrolyte Without salt reservoir: 150 µS/cm
With salt reservoir: 100 µS/cm
General water and wastewater engineering
(slightly contaminated media)
PTFE ring diaphragm Large-area ring diaphragm Polymerised solid electrolyte Without salt reservoir: 100 µS/cm
With salt reservoir: 50 µS/cm
Only if it is very dirty or e. g. oily, sticky substances
Annular gap or perforated diaphragm Open interface between the solid electrolyte and the medium, arranged in a ring-shaped or point-shaped design Polymerised solid electrolyte Without salt reservoir: 500 µS/cm
With salt reservoir: 500 µS/cm
