Chromat (CrO42-) ist ein negativ geladenes Ion, das aus Chrom und Sauerstoff besteht. Es ist eine Verbindung, die in der Natur vorkommt und auch in vielen industriellen Prozessen, wie z.B. der Galvanisierung und der Herstellung von Farben und Pigmenten, verwendet wird.
Chromat ist in der Regel harmlos und wird im Körper gut verstoffwechselt.
Chrom Cr(VI) (auch als Hexavalentes Chrom bezeichnet) ist eine andere Form von Chrom, die aus sechswertigem Chrom und Sauerstoff besteht. Es ist eine hochtoxische Verbindung, die in vielen Industriezweigen, wie z.B. der Elektroplattierung, der Herstellung von Farben und Pigmenten, der Gerbmittelherstellung und der Galvanotechnik eingesetzt wird. Es ist auch ein Nebenprodukt der Verbrennung von Kohle und Öl.
Cr(VI) ist bekannt für seine karzinogenen Eigenschaften und kann bei längerer Einwirkung gesundheitsschädlich sein. Es kann zu Haut- und Augenreizungen, Atembeschwerden, Leber- und Nierenschäden sowie verschiedenen Krebsarten führen.
Die Verwendung von CR(VI) wird aufgrund seiner Gesundheitsrisiken streng reguliert, insbesondere in der Europäischen Union, wo die Verwendung von Chrom Cr(VI) in vielen Industriezweigen verboten ist. Stattdessen wir das weniger giftige Chromat (CrO42-) in vielen Anwendungen als Alternative verwendet.
Es ist wichtig zu beachten, dass Chromat und Chrom zwei verschiedene Verbindungen sind und nicht miteinander verwechselt werden sollten. Chromat ist in der Regel ungefährlich, während Chrom eine gefährliche Verbindung ist, die strenge Sicherheitsvorkehrungen erfordert, um die Gesundheit von Arbeitnehmern und Öffentlichkeit zu schützen.

The Testomat 2000 CrVI (High Measurement Range) is an analysis device for
continuous monitoring of chromate and CrVI content in water with an extended measurement
range (chromate up to 11.15 mg/L, CrVI up to 5.0 mg/L). Automated reagent addition and
short reaction times provide fast and reliable results.
The device allows continuous monitoring of chromate and CrVI. The photometric measurement
method uses two automatically added reagents, ensuring reliable detection even at high
concentrations. Measurement results are available within minutes. Two freely programmable
limit values with hysteresis enable process alarms or control functions. Optionally, data
can be recorded via 4–20 mA signal, recorder card, or SD-Card logger.
