Product information "Neomeris water softening system 32"

The Neomeris Water Softener 32, designed for households with 1 to 5 people, softens up to 3,200 litres of water per regeneration cycle with an inlet water quality of 10°dH. The Neomeris Water Softener 32 uses the ion exchange process, in which the ‘hardness minerals’ calcium (Ca2+) and magnesium (Mg2+) are partially replaced by sodium ions (Na+). This removes the limescale, resulting in soft water.

Product benefits at a glance:

Installation of the Neomeris Water Softener 32

The housing of the Neomeris Water Softener 32 is a cabinet housing with a removable lid. The cabinet contains a GRP pressure bottle filled with high-quality ion exchange resin. The cabinet housing also serves as a container for regeneration salt for the production of brine (saline solution) and can hold a maximum of 40 kg of salt. The GRP pressure bottle is equipped with a Clack WS 1 CI water-controlled valve, which completes the system. The control valve is equipped with an easy-to-use microprocessor-controlled control system that is operated via five buttons. The multi-function display with status indicator is compatible with metric and American units. CLACK WS 1 CI is made of fibre-reinforced plastic and offers a modular, robust material without screws. The front can be easily removed thanks to a click system, which makes maintenance simple.

We set the CLACK WS 1 CI control valve to the factory default setting of ‘Delayed volume-controlled regeneration’ (volume control).

Water volume control

The Clack WS 1 CI valve, which operates electronically to control water volume, records soft water consumption using a built-in water meter. When the set volume of softened water has been used, the appliance does not immediately enter the regeneration phase, but only does so at night. As a safety factor, a reserve capacity is preset so that lime-free water continues to be available after the set water capacity has been reached.

Soft water is produced by ion exchange resin

The central element of every water softening system is the ion exchange resin. This resin contains sodium ions (Na+). When hard water (tap water) is passed through the resin, the calcium and magnesium ions (Ca2+ / Mg2+) contained in the water are exchanged with the sodium ions (Na+) that adhere to the resin. The result is soft water. The resin has a service life of more than 20 years.

Neomeris water softener 32 regeneration

When the capacity of the exchange resin is exhausted, i.e. when it is completely saturated with calcium and magnesium ions (Ca2+ / Mg2+), the system regenerates itself using the salt tablets (saline solution) inserted. Regeneration takes place as follows: The calcium and magnesium ions (Ca2+ / Mg2+) must be completely removed from the exchange resin. To achieve this, the water softener automatically feeds a highly concentrated sodium chloride solution (common salt) through the ion exchange resin. In this process, the resin is recharged with sodium ions (Na+). The calcium and magnesium ions (Ca2+ / Mg2+) are discharged into the waste water together with the excess salt solution via a separate drain. The resin can then be reused to soften the tap water again. During regeneration, the Neomeris water softening system supplies untreated tap water via an integrated bypass, ensuring a continuous water supply.

Forced regeneration prevents system contamination

Forced regeneration starts automatically on the tenth day of system inactivity. This prevents contamination in the resin bed. This forced regeneration is a form of safety regeneration and only takes place if no regeneration has occurred due to quantity control, for example during holidays.

Salt filling of the water softener

Depending on water hardness and consumption, one salt filling lasts for approximately 3 to 4 months; after that, new salt must be added. An integrated safety float valve with buoy protects the cabinet housing from flooding.

Determine water hardness / Salting

This test kit is already included in the complete set with item no. 400005 Water Hardness DUO Test Kit. Below you will find some sample calculations, for your reference, of the achievable volume of softened water for water hardness levels ranging from 3 °dH to 40 °dH.

Water softeners can be regenerated using either economy salting or full salting. With full salting, approximately 200 grams of salt are used per litre of softening resin for regeneration. With partial brining, however, only 120 grams are used. Regeneration using full brining fully restores the capacity. With partial brining, 80% of the softened water capacity is restored through regeneration, despite the significantly lower salt requirement. Based on your requirements, you can therefore determine the most suitable system for your needs.

Note: To ensure the water softener operates in a hygienically sound manner, the ion-exchange resin must be regenerated regularly – even if little or no water has been used.

In accordance with DIN EN 806-5 and the requirements of DVGW Worksheet W 510:

The water softener must carry out a regeneration cycle at least every 72 hours (3 days), regardless of water consumption.

This so-called forced regeneration serves to prevent microbial contamination of the ion exchange resin and ensures the long-term hygienic safety of the system.
